Havarie is a television film from the crime series Tatort , produced by Hessischer Rundfunk (HR) and broadcast for the first time on September 16, 2001 in the program Das Erste . The 480th crime scene episode is the 28th and at the same time the last case of the chief detective Edgar Brinkmann , embodied by Karl-Heinz von Hassel .

Brinkmann is investigating a case of killing a respected businessman who was involved in an insurance fraud and who privately showed a cynical and inhuman face.

action

A fire breaks out on the French freighter "Marianna" and the ship sinks. The crew could be rescued, ship and cargo are a total loss.

The freighter had relief supplies from the “Family of Man” (FOM) company on board, which are insured for a total of DM 15 million. Their boss, Prof. Windecker, doesn't seem particularly shocked, but the announcement by a certain Löwberg that he is going to visit him seems to worry him.

Windecker and Löwberg meet, during the conversation it turns out that the two were old friends and then fell out. Windecker has always been more successful in business than Löwberg and married Löwberg's great love, Amelie. Löwberg wants to see Amelie, Windecker scoffs at the fact that he must be lucky when she is sober. Windecker himself has an affair with the wife of his son Max.

Meanwhile, Löwberg visits Amelie and finds her depressed and apathetic. Later, Amelie is visited by her son, who tells her about his father's affair with his wife and implores her not to put up with everything from her husband.

Windecker goes golfing, where he is shortly afterwards killed with a golf club. Amelie Windecker still looks lethargic when Brinkmann brings her the news of her death. The domestic worker can testify that Amelie is depressed and that she was at home all the time yesterday. Brinkmann then visits Windecker's daughter-in-law Tatjana, who testifies that she and her husband were at home together at the time of the crime.

Brinkmann also found Löwberg at the Windecker house, who stood by Amelie and introduced himself as an old friend of the family.

Dr. Kemmer, Windecker's partner, suggests Windecker's son that he pay him two million D-Marks from the deal with the freighter, and then he goes into hiding because Kemmer has no alibi. The Windeckers would then have a murderer that they could present to the police. Windecker's son refuses because he doesn't have the money. The two meet again, in a building shell, and Dr. Kemmer in the elevator shaft to his death.

Meanwhile, Brinkmann finds out that Amelie Windecker and Löwberg have left for Marseille, where Löwberg lives. Brinkmann then also booked a flight to Marseille. There he goes to Löwberg's apartment. Amelie is there, but does not open it for him.

In a narrow alley in Marseille, Brinkmann can barely save himself from an assassination attempt with a car. The next day, Löwberg is kidnapped on the street and forced to get into the car next to an armed stranger.

Brinkmann has to fight off another assassination attempt as the taxi driver who picks him up at the hotel tries to kill him.

Brinkmann's assistant meanwhile takes Windecker jr. because he sucks candy and offers people to talk to, and one has found such a candy in Kemmer's esophagus, although he did not have one with him. This proves that this with Windecker jr. must have been together.

Brinkmann is tracked down by his pursuer, but he disappears when the French police show up. Meanwhile, Löwberg is being interrogated by the shipowner of the lost freighter. When Löwberg informs him that the German police only want to solve the murder of Windecker, but not the insurance fraud because of the lost freighter. The shipowner then lets Löwberg go.

Meanwhile, Brinkmann receives notification that the case has been resolved because Windecker jr. says that Kemmer killed Windecker, which is what he is believed.

Brinkmann finds Amelie in a café in Marseille. He tells her that the case has been resolved and that her son can only expect a suspended sentence. Löwberg joins them, and Brinkmann shows that he knows that he killed Windecker, but that he intends to keep this knowledge to himself. Brinkmann knows what a cynical and inhuman person Windecker was, and allows Löwberg and Amelie a new life. Brinkmann also tells the two that he is retiring and will be leaving the police anyway.
