Tödliches Labyrinth is a television film from the crime series Tatort by ARD and ORF . The film was produced by the SFB and first broadcast on December 12, 1999. It is the second case of the investigator duo Hellmann and Ritter and the 430th crime scene episode. Hellmann and Ritter have to solve the murder of a young computer hacker and are targeted by other authorities who apparently have no interest in solving the case.

While Till Ritter feels mentally battered because he had to shoot a suspect in emergency aid for his colleague Robert Hellmann, the Berlin telecommunications company "SMS-Elektronik" is expecting an important visit. Chinese interested parties traveled to Berlin for a billion-dollar contract, and the state is also interested in the deal due to the economic importance of the contract. The young hacker Michael Grabowski, who calls himself "Ikarus", hacked into the company's computer and made those responsible understand that he knew about the deal with the Chinese. "Ikarus" causes a traffic chaos that same night by switching all traffic lights in Berlin to green at the same time. Due to a call on the roof of the Forum Hotel, from where he was operating that evening, he meets with Ariadne, who is working on the deal with the Chinese, shortly afterwards he falls to his death. His colleague Ruth Brauner, called "Lady Cyber", who was previously sent away by "Icarus", secretly films the crime. Hellmann and Ritter are called to the scene of the crime, the coroner assumes suicide, but Ritter has doubts. The next morning, Ariadne's superior, Walter Rudloff, inquires about the investigating police officers Hellmann and Ritter. He reproaches Ariadne for luring "Icarus" and instructs her to act as Hanna Kunig from the BKA to influence the investigation in order to make up for her mistake, the authorities would cooperate because the Chinese mandate was too important.
Hellmann and Ritter doubt "Icarus'" suicide because they suspect that he caused the traffic chaos and that it would make no sense for him to take his own life after his "triumph". When they visit the dead man's mother, with whom he was still living, she tells them that her colleague is already searching her son's room. To their surprise, Hellmann and Ritter meet the woman who introduces herself as a computer specialist Hanna Kunig from the BKA. The officers and Kunig quickly get into a conflict of competence, but Kunig suggests that they cooperate. Nevertheless, shortly thereafter, Ritter observed that Kunig was trying to get the dead man's bank statements and took them from her again. Hellmann and Ritter are amazed at the large amounts the young man had apparently paid in cash, and his equipment is also quite expensive. Hellmann and Ritter distrust their colleague and look around the hacker scene, but receive no information there. The police were able to find the business section of the FAZ in his apartment, an article has been cut out. Shortly thereafter, Hellmann and Ritter von Wiegand are informed that no further investigations should be made in the case, this instruction came from the BKA. In order to gain the trust of the officials, Kunig Hellmann hands over the FAZ article, which was missing in Grabowski's newspaper. She plays to the officers that she is also interested in further investigations on her own.
The officers drive with their BKA colleague to the traffic control center, the head there asserts that the software is absolutely immune to hackers, when Kunig asked, he admits that Ruth Brauner is his daughter and had known Grabowski well. He also admits to making up the regularly changing code words himself. The officers go to see their colleague Ruth Brauner and take her to the Forum Hotel. On the roof, Hellmann asks her what happened, he is convinced that Ruth Brauner was there that evening and is keeping this from the officers, but Kunig intervenes and ends the interrogation. Ruth Brauner later confides in Mrs. Grabowski. While Hellmann, who distrusts Hanna, argues with Ritter, who has no concerns, Hanna goes to her superior Rudloff and says that she can no longer participate, Rudloff remains unimpressed. Hellmann and Ritter meanwhile get pressure from Wiegand to present the final report, who repeats that the investigation has been concluded. Shortly afterwards, Kunig tells Hellmann that the money in Grabowski's account could also come from the sale of code words, but Hellmann tells her that the final report is already in preparation and information is no longer necessary. Ruth shows another hacker her film recordings, which she secretly made of Grabowski, which prove that he sold Ariadne Code-Words from the US company that competed with SMS electronics for the contract from China. SMS-Elektronik was able to undercut the American offer and win the order. She gives the hacker to understand that she also knows about his involvement in the business, he must help her to get revenge now, otherwise she will betray him. Ruth secretly passes a video cassette to Ritter, who in the meantime finds a reference to the US company Digitel, which Grabowski has hidden in his codes.
When Hanna Kunig is about to get closer to Hellmann, Hellmann is called to the Presidium by Ritter , who presents him with the video that Ruth has passed on to him, on which the meeting of Ariadne and "Icarus" on the roof is documented. At the same time, Rudloff shows Hanna a video uploaded on the Internet in which she is identified as Ariadne as the murderer. She slips back into her previous role as Ariadne with a wig and breaks into the Brauners' house that night, where she meets Ruth, who is at home alone, and asks her to hand over the video. Shortly afterwards, Hellmann and Ritter ring the doorbell because they suspect that the video could only have been leaked to them by her. Ruth lets them in, but is bugged by Ariadne using spy software on Hellmann and Ritter's cell phones. She can make it clear to the officers that they should turn off their cell phones and then warns them about Ariadne. This escapes from the house, Hellmann follows her, while Ritter takes care of Ruth. Ariadne flees to the apartment, which she and Rudloff use as a base to destroy all evidence and then go into hiding, Hellmann follows her. Meanwhile, Ritter learns from Ruth that "Icarus" Grabowski fell in love with Ariadne when he hacked the US company for her in order to collect information so that SMS-Elektronik could do business with the Chinese instead of the Americans.
Hellmann penetrates the apartment after calling Ritter, there he introduces Ariadne, who turns out to be Hanna Kunig, shortly afterwards Ritter arrives too. She confesses to the two officials that they work for the BND , and Walter Rudloff's group has used the hackers to fished off the offers of foreign competitors in order to give the German company a competitive advantage, so jobs in Germany should be secured. She doesn't want to have anything to do with the death of “Ikarus” and claims that Rudloff pushed the boy off the roof. He has probably already dropped her, so that she stands there as a murderer and has to go to jail for Rudloff. The officers ask Ruth to hand over the videotape. The next morning, the analysis of the recordings clearly shows Rudloff's perpetrators, and with the help of Hannas and Ruth, the officers can also secure the evidence of industrial espionage . Alerted by a hacker working for him, Rudloff sends several of his people to the computer club, where the officers and Ruth are securing the evidence. They switch off the power when Hanna and the officers leave the club, Rudloff, who is waiting outside, shoots Hanna. Ritter runs after the car and shoots it, so that Rudloff is involved in an accident and can be arrested. Officially, Rudloff acted on his own, the BND and SMS Elektronik allegedly did not know anything about the matter, so that nothing will get through to the press.
