Nina Franoszek

Nina Franoszek (born March 16, 1963 in Berlin ) is a German actress .

life and career

Nina Franoszek grew up in Berlin. Her mother Franek is a painter , her father Eduard Franoszek was a professor at the Berlin University of the Arts . In the late 1970s and early 1980s Franoszek was the model of the artists Salomé , GL Gabriel and Rainer Fetting (see Neue Wilde ). She took dance lessons and appeared in the Berlin scene, which was shaped by the Neue Deutsche Welle , with various artists. At the age of 17 Franoszek was discovered by Rainer Werner Fassbinder . She made her cinema debut in 1982 with Domino , directed by Thomas Brasch and Be tender penguin , directed by Peter Hajek . After graduating from high school, she completed a classical acting course at the Hanover University of Music and Theater . Engagements for national and international theater productions followed.

In 1989 she was cast in her first English-language role in the movie Buster's Bedroom , a comedy by Rebecca Horn with Donald Sutherland and Geraldine Chaplin , which was awarded the German Film Prize. In the following years Franoszek was seen in numerous film and television productions. She played leading roles in episodes. a. in Tatort , The Last Witness and the French TV series Julie Lescaut , episode The tip of the triangle (L'enfant témoin) (1994).

She could be seen in continuous female leading roles in the German-Italian TV series Zwei Männer und die Frauen (1995), directed by Jörg Grünler , and the comedic TV series Körner & Köter (2002-2003), directed by Hans Werner , together with Max See Tidof . For her leading role in the three-part television series Sardsch , she received the Grimme Prize in 1998 together with Axel de Roche (director & camera), Hannes Jaenicke (leading actor) and Rolf Hoppe (leading actor) . Directed by Claudia Prietzel , Franoszek starred in the 1999 television film Schande , which won the German Television Prize that same year , and Oliver Hirschbiegel directed her in the interactive television film Murderous Decision (1991) and Kommissar Rex (1994). In addition to Claudia Michelsen and Devid Striesow , she appeared in the Grimmepreis-nominated drama 12: Ich liebe dich (2007).

In the cinema you saw Franoszek u. a. alongside Tilda Swinton in The Party - Nature Morte (1990), directed by Cynthia Beatt , with Götz Schubert in Der Zimmerpringbrunnen (2001), directed by Peter Timm , and in Roman Polański's film The Pianist (2002) as a Polish refugee woman.

Since 1998 Franoszek has built up a second focus of work in Los Angeles . In 1999 she made her directorial debut at the Pacific Resident Theater in Los Angeles with two Strindberg productions ( Playing with Fire , The Stronger ). Orson Bean , Alley Mills and Paula Malcomson played the leading roles . Numerous productions and staged readings followed. a. with Eric Braeden and Curt Lowens at Villa Aurora and the Goethe-Institut in Los Angeles.

Franoszek has distanced himself from her directorial work for the episode film GG 19 - Germany in 19 Articles Episode 5 The Big Video Swindle (2007). Her contribution to the filming of the Basic Law is credited to Alan Smithee .

In the US she was a guest star on the award-winning TV series Mad Men (episode Jet Set ) and she played the Swedish role Gala in the web series Easy to Assemble by and with Illeana Douglas .

In 2013 she played the continuous role of psychologist Ute Dannowski in the second season of Weissensee and in 2014 she received the German Actor Award for Best Ensemble with the Acting Ensemble.

In the ninth season of Heidi Klum's Germany's Next Topmodel episode Expression Edition, Franoszek teaches the candidates how to cry at the push of a button as an acting coach, and in the video game Wolfenstein: The New Order she plays the antagonist Ms. Engel. She developed the character in motion capture under the direction of Tom Keegan and is also the German voice of Ms. Engel.

Franoszek is a member of the German Film Academy , the Federal Association of Directors , the Federal Association of Film and Television Actors (BFFS) and the American Screen Actors Guild (SAG) . She is a finalist of the Actor's Studio and a member of Villa Aurora . From 2007 to 2013 she was a juror at the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences .
