Jenseits der Mauer is a German television film that was produced by WDR and NDR in 2009 . Most of the movie takes place in 1989, just before the fall of the Wall of the DDR .
action
In September 1974, Ulrich and Heike Molitor tried to travel to the Federal Republic of Germany at the Helmstedt-Marienborn border crossing with forged identity cards, hiding their two children Klaus and Miriam in the trunk of their vehicle. When a border guard becomes suspicious, the couple tries unsuccessfully to forcibly escape the control area. The couple is sentenced to six years in prison; Alternatively, there is the possibility of emigrating to the Federal Republic of Germany, but leaving the daughter Miriam behind as an adopted child. The family chooses this option. The baby is adopted by Frank and Susanne Pramann in Leipzig under the name Rebecca.
In February 1989, Rebecca met the two boys Nils and Victor at a public party. Victor is employed by the border troops , which has had a sensitive impact on his experience with the wall .
Meanwhile, Rebecca's biological parents try to contact her by post, but the Stasi officer Brigitte Schröder intercepts all letters to her until she recognizes the constraints and injustices of the GDR and reveals herself to Rebecca's parents in a letter.
This is how Rebecca found out about her birth parents, who were not allowed to enter the GDR in 1974 because they had fled the GDR . However, the son Klaus can enter legally. With the help of a letter from Brigitte Schröder, he finds Rebecca in Leipzig. Inspired by Klaus' visit, Rebecca wants to cross the border to the Federal Republic with her boyfriend Victor. This initially refuses. On the same evening, Günter Schabowski announced the fall of the Berlin Wall , but by this time Rebecca and Victor had already left. On television, Klaus Molitor recognizes Rebecca crossing the Bornholmer Strasse border crossing in the crowd . He and his parents immediately set off to greet them in West Berlin . Now their birth parents can also meet with the adoptive parents. It remains open with which parents - and thus also in which state - Rebecca stays.
criticism
"(TV) drama and emotional family history, which at times processes a piece of German-German history too smoothly and interchangeably, but on the whole tells quite intensively and without moral indignation of the criminal character of the socialist folder dictatorship on German soil."
Impressions of the actors
“I found the emotional prison that the Molitor couple got into after losing their daughter, to understand the agonizing feeling of guilt, to be an exciting acting task. I also liked the fact that this ensemble piece tells contemporary history based on various fates. "
"We have had so many changing and decisive experiences in German history that have an impact and are processed to this day - they want and must be told."
