Terrell Myers (born August 28, 1974 in New Haven , Connecticut ) is a retired American - British basketball player . After studying in his native country, Myers played as a professional in the British Basketball League (BBL), where he won the 1998/99 regular season and twice the National Cup with the Sheffield Sharks. In 1999 he was named “ Most Valuable Player ” (MVP) by the BBL. After Myers became a British citizen, he played four years in Spain after six years in the BBL .

Career

Myers went from his home in Connecticut to study at Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia , where he played for four years from 1993 for the college team Hawks in the Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) of the NCAA . In his final college season in 1997 as a senior , the Hawks were able to win the championship tournament of the A-10 and thus end the championship series of the Minutemen of the University of Massachusetts , who had won the tournament five times in a row, four times in the finals against the "Philadelphia Big 5" rivals Temple Owls. In the final of the conference championship in 1997, they defeated the Rams of the University of Rhode Island , which included the young German player David Arigbabu in the squad. In the national NCAA finals , the Hawks reached the round of 16 Sweet Sixteen , in which they were eliminated against the eventual finalists Wildcats , but not the Wildcats of arch-rivals Villanova University , but the University of Kentucky . Myers was somewhat overshadowed by his one year younger teammate Rashid Bey and could not recommend himself for the NBA draft .

After finishing his studies, Myers started a professional career in the British Basketball League (BBL), where he won the 1998 BBL League Cup with the Sharks from Sheffield . The following year they could not defend this title, but won the "National Cup" competition. In the championship they won the regular season in which Myers was named MVP of the BBL, but was eliminated in the play-offs in the semifinals against the eventual title winner London Towers. In the 1999/2000 season they defended the cup title in the final against the Manchester Giants , but were eliminated in the first play-off round of the championship. A year later they won the "Northern Conference" of the BBL, which was divided into regional groups, but lost the final of the play-offs against the Leicester Riders . For the 2001/02 season, Myers moved to the Towers from London , which were also represented internationally. In the European club competition ULEB Euroleague 2001/02 , which had now finally replaced the competitions of FIBA Europe as the highest European club competition, all 14 preliminary round games were often lost quite significantly. After winning the "Southern Conference" of the BBL, the Towers lost in the semi-finals of the play-offs against Myers' former club Sheffield Sharks. The final of the BBL Trophy 2002/03 they lost the following year with two points difference against defending champion Chester Jets and as seventh of the regular season with a negative season balance they were eliminated in the first play-off round.

Myers used his British citizenship to play in more lucrative southern European leagues after 2003. For the 2003/04 season he got a contract with Casademont from Girona in the Spanish ACB league . Myers got off to a good start in the ACB league when he was named Player of the Week for the sixth game day's most effective player. However, Girona missed entry into the play-offs for the championship for a win in 13th place in the final table at the end of the season. In the following season they only reached the third from bottom place in the table at the end of the season. With the new name sponsor Akasvayu, however, the leap into the top eight teams succeeded in the 2005/06 season. As seventh in the main round they were eliminated in the first play-off round against runner-up TAU Cerámica . For the 2006/07 season, Myers got a contract with the first division promoted Polaris World from Murcia , where he played with the Slovak national player and later multiple German champion Anton Gavel . He managed to stay in league position at the end of the season in 14th place in the table. Myers retired as a professional and later coached the basketball team at St. Andrew's High School in Middletown, Delaware .
