EuroLeague 2000/01

The season 2001/02 was the 2 . Season of the EuroLeague , the most important competition in European club basketball.

Panathinaikos Athens won the title for the first time . However, the Greeks had already won the European Cup twice before .

The two winners made it into the main round. The remaining teams continued to play in the Saporta Cup .

Main round

Preliminary round

In this first phase, the 32 teams divided into four groups (A to D) competed against each other in home and away games until each team had played 14 games. The four best from each group qualified for the next round.

Intermediate round (Top 16)

In the second phase of the Euroleague, the remaining 16 teams were divided into four groups (E to H) of four teams each. The performance from the regular season was reflected in the seeding list for the draw. In this phase, too, the teams in each group competed against each other in home and return matches. The respective group winners qualified directly for the Final Four tournament.

In a tournament that took place within a weekend, two teams each competed in semifinals. The winners qualified for the final, from which the winner of the ULEB Euroleague emerged.
