FIBA European Champion Clubs' Cup 1958/59

The season 1959/60 was the third season of the FIBA Europe discharged European Cup champion , who today as Euro League operates.

As in the previous two years, ASK Riga from the Soviet Union won the title .

mode

The 13 champions of the respective national league, as well as the defending champion and another selected team from the Soviet Union, took part in the final round. First a qualification was played. The winners of the pairings were determined in the first and second leg. The decisive factor was the overall basket ratio in both games. The winners of the pairings in the second round, in the quarter-finals, in the semi-finals and in the final were also determined in the two-legged matches.

  • Fenerbahçe Istanbul from Turkey made it into the finals without a fight because the intended opponent Maccabi Tel Aviv did not appear due to internal problems.
  • Union Babenberg Vienna from Austria also got on without a fight, as the Italian champions were banned from the 1959/60 European Cup in the Simmenthal Milano preseason .

* For the first time, two teams from the same country took part, as Riga was automatically seeded as the defending champion and another Soviet club was allowed to take part in the competition. In the league there, the championship was held without club teams in the 1958/59 season. Finally, Dinamo Tbilisi took part in the tournament.
