The territorial prelature Huautla was on October 8, 1972 by Pope Paul VI. established with the Apostolic Constitution Ad bonum animorum from cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of Antequera and subordinated to this as a suffragan . On January 8, 1979, the territorial prelate Huautla were parts of their territory to the founding of the Apostolic Constitution sacer Nuper erected Diocese of Tuxtepec from.
