Terry Hands
Terence David "Terry" Hands (born January 9, 1941 in Aldershot ; † February 4, 2020 ) was a British theater director and artistic director.
Terence David Hands studied at the University of Birmingham and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA).
In 1964 he founded the Everyman Theater in Liverpool . Terry Hands was hired by the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1966 to lead the touring company Theatregoround . Together with Trevor Nunn, he became artistic director in 1978 and sole director in 1986. His decision to close the RSC's stages at the Barbican Center in the winter of 1990/1991 was crucial for the RSC to receive an increased grant from the Arts Council . In 1997 he became director of the Clwyd Theatr Cymru , which mainly toured Wales and the rest of the UK.
Their daughter Marina Hands comes from their marriage to the French actress Ludmila Mikaël , who like her mother switched to acting. In October 2001, he resigned from his position as Advisory Head of the RSC.
