Tesfamariam Bedho

Tesfamariam Bedho ( Tigrinya ተስፋማርያም ብድሆ ; born September 12, 1934 in Doroque , Eritrea ; † July 29, 2002 in Asmara , Eritrea) was a bishop of the Ethiopian Catholic Church of Keren in Eritrea.

Life

Tesfamariam Bedho grew up near Keren , in his native Doroque. From 1949 to 1953 he attended the episcopal seminary in Keren and then switched to the seminary in Asmara . In 1959 he studied philosophy and theology at the Pontifical Urban University in Rome . On December 19, 1965, Bishop François Abraha of Asmara - in the Vatican - ordained him priest . From 1971 to 1990 he was a teacher at the seminary in Asmara and from 1981 to 1988 at the same time as vicar in the ordinariate of Asmara. In 1991 he was appointed vicar general in Asmara by his bishop Zekarias Yohannes . On December 21, 1995, he was appointed bishop of Keren. The episcopal ordination on February 4, 1996 was donated by Cardinal Paulos Tzadua , Metropolitan and Archbishop of Addis Ababa . It assisted as co-consecrators Bishop Zekarias Yohannes of Asmara and Bishop Kidane-Mariam Teklehaimanot of Adigrat .

Bishop Bedho was a co-consecrator to Bishops Menghisteab Tesfamariam MCCJ and Thomas Osman OFMCap , his later successor. He was a delegate of the Catholic Church in Eritrea and Ethiopia at the Xth Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops in Rome (September 30th - October 27th 2001). He died suddenly and unexpectedly on July 29, 2002 while visiting the seminary in Asmara.
