It began on August 3, 1974 and ended with the final second leg on December 11, 1974 at St. James' Park in Newcastle upon Tyne . The two English clubs Newcastle United and Southampton FC met in the final . Newcastle won the final 3-1 on a round trip and won the Texaco Cup for the second time after 1973/74 .
