Thaba Chweu (English: Thaba Chweu Local Municipality ) is a municipality in the Ehlanzeni district in the South African province of Mpumalanga .

The parish is named after a mountain in the parish; the name comes from the Sepedi and means "white mountain".

The motto of the community is Re direla batho , literally “We make people”.

The community is run by the African National Congress ; Selina Mashigo-Sekgobela has been mayor since 2016.

The population increased in five years from 98,387 (2011 census) to 101,895 (2016).

Of the population in 2011, 81.6% were black, 14.5% white and 2.6% colored .

The first language was Sepedi ( 35.0%) , Siswati ( 17.3%) , Afrikaans ( 14.7%) , IsiZulu ( 7.4%) , Sesotho ( 7.0%) , Xitsonga ( 5.3%) , and English (4.1%) , 2.3% isiNdebele , 0.9% Setswana , 0.5% isiXhosa and 1.6% a language other than the official language recognized in South Africa.
