occupation

The Seven Million Dollar Woman ( The Bionic Woman ) is an offshoot of the successful US television series The Six Million Dollar Man with Lindsay Wagner in the lead role. The total of 58 episodes of the series ran from 1976 to 1977 on ABC and from 1977 to 1978 on NBC .

Wagner played the role of Jaime Sommers , a professional tennis player who was seriously injured after a parachute accident and had bionic limbs implanted during an operation . From now on she can run faster than a car, her right arm is strong enough to bend steel, and her ear can perceive frequencies inaudible to the human ear.

In September 2007 started on the US broadcaster NBC with Bionic Woman, a new edition of the series with Michelle Ryan in the lead role. This new edition only had eight episodes. In March 2008, producer David Eick officially announced that the series was discontinued.

action

The character Jaime first appears in the six million dollar man episode "The Bionic Woman" .

Jaime Sommers and Steve Austin, the six million dollar man (played by Lee Majors ), were engaged to be engaged once before Steve began his astronaut training, but later broke up and lost sight of each other. During a visit to his parents, he meets Jaime again, who has since become a well-known tennis professional. The relationship between the two is revived and Steve soon proposes marriage to her. An accident occurs during a skydiving excursion: Jaime's parachute opens incompletely, she falls and is seriously injured. The doctors give her little chance of survival, whereupon Steve persuades his superior Oscar Goldman to save her life with bionic body parts. Despite Steve's objections, like him, she carries out post-operation assignments for Goldman. However, on one of these missions, her implants begin to fail. Jaime becomes mentally and physically unstable and falls into a coma . The doctors succeed in stopping the rejection reaction of the implants, but Jaime now suffers from amnesia : She can no longer remember her relationship with Steve, and just trying to remember causes her physical pain. Steve Austin then decides to let her go to spare her further suffering.

Jaime, who has given up her tennis career, now teaches in her hometown of Ojai while continuing to work as an undercover agent for OSI.

In the course of the series, she fights against various opponents, including androids and aliens. She fulfills some missions together with Steve Austin, but the previous relationship is not discussed during these missions. It was only in the three films in which the story of Steve Austin and Jaime Sommers was continued that the love between the two flared up again, so that Jaime and Steve finally got married despite many complications they had to face again. The last two films have not yet been dubbed in German.

In some episodes of the series there is also a German shepherd named Max, who has bionic legs and an artificial jaw and who helps her with his skills on some missions.

Television films

After the series, three more television films were produced in the 1980s and 1990s, which continued the story of the bionic duo Jaime Sommers and Steve Austin . These films have not yet been broadcast on television in German-speaking countries; only the first film was released on VHS video under the somewhat irritating title Return of the Robots .

  1. Return of the robot ( The Return of the Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman )
  2. Bionic Showdown: The Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman (not published in German)
  3. Bionic Ever After? (not published in German)

Availability

In the 1980s, individual episodes of the series were already released on VHS video: With The 6 Million Dollar Girl , CIC Video presented the pilot episode in 1987, which was shown on television as part of the series The Six Million Dollar Man . In the same year followed with 6 Million Dollar Dog the publication of the double episode from the third season, in which the bionic dog Max was introduced.

Then place in the years 2008 and 2009, a complete publication of all three seasons of the seven-million-dollar woman on DVD , this time by the German company Koch Media . With this, all episodes are now available for the first time in an uncut version with German and English soundtracks .

Remarks

  1. a b The episode Franklins Fehler (Kill Oscar, Part 2) originally belongs to the series The Six Million Dollar Man , but was shown in Germany as part of The Seven Million Dollar Woman as the first and third Part of this multi-part ( Infiltrated (Kill Oscar, Part 1) and The Counterattack (Kill Oscar, Part 3) ) ran here. Instead, the episode The Return Of Bigfoot - Part 2 ran not as an episode of The Seven Million Dollar Woman, as in the original, but in The Six Million Dollar Man .
  2. The episode first aired as the 53rd episode of The Six Million Dollar Man series and was later shown basically as the first episode of The Seven Million Dollar Woman .
