The Exorcist is an American horror series based on the 1971 novel of the same name by William Peter Blatty . The series actually continues the plot of the 1973 film of the same name . The US broadcaster Fox has been broadcasting the first broadcast since September 23, 2016. The German-language first broadcast ran from October 20 to November 17, 2017 on the pay-TV channel ProSieben Fun . From February 28 to April 19, 2018, the series ran on ProSieben's free TV .
On May 12, 2017, the series was extended for a second season, which began broadcasting on September 29, 2017.
The series was discontinued in May 2018 after two seasons.

The series is about the two priests Tomas Ortega and Marcus Keane, who investigate the case of a family that is haunted by demons. The family mother, Angela Rance, is haunted by nightmares night after night. She quickly begins to theories about the connections between these nightmares and the supernatural, with a demon.

The series, which is based on the novel of the same name by William Peter Blatty from 1971, was developed by Jeremy Slater . In January 2016, Fox commissioned the production of a pilot episode. The first season of the series was filmed in Chicago . Filming for the second season began on July 28, 2017 in Vancouver .

criticism
The Exorcist received mostly positive reviews. At Rotten Tomatoes , the first season of the series reached 78 percent with 50 ratings. At Metacritic , the first season received a Metascore of 62/100 points based on 28 reviews.
Axel Schmitt from the industry portal Serienjunkies.de finds the pilot episode “not particularly scary”, but “manages to establish an interesting constellation of characters”. In combination with the “convincing performances by the main actors”, it becomes “a start that is well worth seeing”.
