The Making of Jesus Christ with the subtitle “A personal search for traces” is a documentary essay from a Swiss production by Luke Gasser about the life of Jesus of Nazareth . The film premiered at the Warsaw International Film Festival in October 2012 and opened in Swiss cinemas on March 7, 2013.

With this film, Gasser went on a personal search for clues. At the original locations in what is now Israel, he shot reenactments that re-enact events around the year 30. In between, he repeatedly fades in interviews with Hollywood director Paul Verhoeven and with theologians and historians (e.g. Eugen Drewermann and Perry Schmidt-Leukel ).
The film explores the question of what happened then and tries to capture the events of that time. The son of a builder, Jesus, from the northern Israeli village of Nazareth, visits the penitentiary John and is baptized by him. Shortly afterwards, Jesus is better known than John, and more and more followers are following him. Jesus only worked for about a year. Apparently at the request of the priesthood of Jerusalem he is executed on a cross by the Romans.

The film was co-produced by Swiss Radio and Television (SRF). A shortened version of the film was shown for the first time on Good Friday 2013 on SRF 1 in the series Sternstunde Religion .
