action

Daniel, the son of Danyael and Valerie, has grown up. Much has happened on earth and Daniel is shot at a sermon by an assassin who was sent by the angel Pyriel . Pyriel himself is the angel of genocide and the guardian angel of the Pharisees . The shady angel Zophael also seems to work for him, who, as a result of Daniel surviving the attack, tries again and again to kill it.

During Zophael's hunt for Daniel, the two of them meet several times. In the end Daniel escapes the angel with Gabriel's help and nails him with an iron bar for the time being. He saves his girlfriend. The now human Gabriel tells Daniel of Pyriel's plan to destroy humanity and sends him to the Navajo desert . Exactly there Gabriel suffered his first defeat against Thomas Dagget and had gone to hell.

The Navajo send Daniel on and he arrives at a hill behind which the still sleeping angel Pyriel lies skeletonized. When he wants to walk the path, he is surprised by Zophael and only after a violent fight does it manage to wrestle the angel down and kill him. Pyriel wakes up and gives Daniel, who comes to him, the choice to turn back and stay out of it or to die. Daniel wants to fight and is attacked by Pyriel. He, too, almost fell victim to the angel of genocide, but was able to assert himself against him through the interference of the Lord , who made Pyriel immobile with a lightning bolt. Thus Daniel can kill the weakened angel.

In the end you only see Pyriel's skull, which Daniel smashed. However, it is questionable whether Pyriel will return, because he is the only angel besides Jesus who has the power of resurrection . Gabriel, however, is confident and is taken back to heaven for his good deeds, the angel symbol on his neck lights up again and he disappears in a swarm of shining white doves.

Reviews

The film received mostly negative reviews from critics. This third part of the God's Army films is exactly “what one would expect from a third part of such a silly horror series,” says Scott Weinberg of eFilmCritic.com. On the other hand, there were also praises, for example from Dave Robinson from the Apollo Guide, who at the same time criticized the ending: “The strengths of God's Army III - The decision make up for its weaknesses, some of which there are. While the film is by and large worth seeing [and exciting] [...], it ends in disappointment. When the final confrontation comes up, much of the tension is lost. The climax of the Second Angels' War is an anti- climax . "

Awards

  • The film was nominated for the 2001 Saturn Award in the Best Home Video Release category.
