Theo Hinz

Theo Hinz (* 13 August 1931 in Julienhof-kicking forest district Rummelsburg i Pom.. , Pomerania , † 4. March 2018 in Munich ) was a German film producer and film distributor .

Life

After attending secondary school in Stettin , fleeing Pomerania to the British occupation zone , an apprenticeship as a window dresser, training at the Hamburg advertising school and employment with the Dutch airline KLM , he was head of department at the German film distributor Constantin Film from 1953 to 1976 Advertising and public relations busy. In 1956 he helped the film dealer Leo Kirch to close his first deal in Germany. With Hinz's support, Constantin Film took Federico Fellini's La Strada into theatrical distribution in Germany.

After Rudolf Augstein took over the majority stake in the film publishing house of the authors in 1977 , he acted there together with Matthias Ginsberg as managing director until 1982. During this time he produced, among other things, the joint film Germany in Autumn (directed by Alf Brustellin , Rainer Werner Fassbinder , Alexander Kluge , Edgar Reitz , Volker Schlöndorff , Bernhard Sinkel , among others ), in which the filmmakers deal with the social situation in the RAF terrorism and the state reaction marked autumn 1977 deal.

In 1983 he founded Futura Film, a distribution company that first brought Alexander Kluge's episode film The Power of Emotions to cinemas. In 1986, Futura Film took over Augstein's shares in the authors' film publishing house. Hinz managed the company until it was taken over by Kinowelt AG (today: studiocanal ) in 1996 . Most recently he was active as a rights dealer with Max Film.

During his professional career he worked for a long time on a voluntary basis in committees of the film funding agency (advertising committee) and in industry associations such as the Association of Film Distributors (Board of Directors) and the collecting society for rights of use to films (vgf). In 2002 he received the Federal Cross of Merit . He lived in Munich since 1956 and had two sons.
