The Theodor-Fliedner-Gymnasium (TFG) is a high school in the Düsseldorf district of Kaiserswerth and is one of the largest Protestant schools in Germany .

School operation

The Theodor-Fliedner-Gymnasium is named after the Protestant pastor, social reformer and founder of the Kaiserswerther Diakonie Theodor Fliedner and is supported by the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland . The school has, among other things, a cafeteria and a self-study center. A sports hall, a swimming pool, a climbing wall and a football team are available for physical education. In addition to normal lessons, workshops and inclination courses, special support measures, school worship services, cooperation with partners outside of school, as well as learning advice and psychological support are offered. The school operation is supported by a development association and the EKiR school foundation.

In the 2018/19 school year, around 1250 pupils attended the school, which was taught by 100 teachers. This makes it one of the largest Protestant schools in Germany.

The grammar school has had a school partnership with the Israeli Ha'emek Hama'aravi Regional High School in Jif'at since 1970 , with the Polish general education lyceum in Działdowo since 1993 and with a Dutch school in Nijmegen for 15 years .

history

The origins of the school go back to the "Educational Institute for Protestant Nurses" founded by Theodor Fliedner and his wife Caroline Fliedner on October 13, 1836. 1925 was also Oberlyzeum established from the higher secondary school emerged. In the 1960s, the Theodor-Fliedner-Gymnasium moved from the building of the now community elementary school in Kaiserswerth to the current school building.

In 2012 the school building was rebuilt and expanded. The school foundation of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland sponsored the construction of the cafeteria, the swimming pool and the sports field as well as the purchase of a private bus.

In 2017, the association raised around 76,000 euros to support school projects. According to press reports, it was the most popular grammar school in all of Düsseldorf for the 2019/20 school year after new registrations.

school-building

The school building was built between 1962 and 1967 according to plans by the Düsseldorf architect Christoph Parade. The design has won awards, has been shown at various exhibitions, for example in Paris in 1978, and is described in several architecture guides.

The school consists of several one to three-storey buildings with flat roofs in a loose arrangement in the style of a pavilion school . The buildings are divided into a children's house with classrooms for the 5th and 6th grades, the main building with grades 7 to 12, functional rooms and the auditorium. Next to it is the sports hall and a swimming pool with a lifting floor. There is also a pavilion which mainly houses the upper level. In the auditorium of the grammar school there is an organ built in 1970 by Hans-Joachim Schuke with 15 stops .
