Theodor Haarbeck

Theodor Haarbeck (born November 11, 1846 in Neukirchen , † December 3, 1923 in Barmen ) was a German Protestant theologian of the community movement .

Life

The son of the mayor of Neukirchen, Gustav Haarbeck, attended a grammar school in Duisburg from 1859 to 1864 . In 1864 and 1865 he studied in Basel , in 1865 and 1866 in Tübingen and in 1867 and 1868 in Bonn . In 1868 Haarbeck became a teacher in a grammar school in Bern . Three years later he married Hanna Rappard , a sister of the inspector Carl Heinrich Rappard, near Basel . In St. Chrischona , Theodor Haarbeck was appointed as inspector of the pilgrimage institution in 1883 . In 1889 he traveled to Slavonia . He worked as an inspector from 1890 to 1919 and later as director at the Johanneum Evangelist School in Barmen. In 1902 Haarbeck was appointed chairman of the Gnadau Conference . From 1911 to 1919 he was chairman of the Gnadauer Verband , the German Association for Protestant Community Care and Evangelism. At Christmas 1919 the University of Bonn made him an honorary doctorate in theology .
