Theodor Vogel (born August 15, 1838 in Dresden , † December 18, 1925 in Leisnig ) was a German theologian, high school teacher and school reformer in Saxony.

Life

Theodor Vogel grew up as the son of the royal Saxon chief accountant Friedrich Franz Vogel in Dresden. After graduating from the Kreuzschule in 1856, he studied Protestant theology at the University of Jena in 1856/57 . He became a member of the Corps Saxonia Jena . He was then enrolled in 1857 for a semester at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen . From 1857 he studied at the University of Leipzig , where he was active in the Corps Lusatia Leipzig . After he had passed the candidate exam in Leipzig in 1860, he worked as a private tutor . From 1861 to 1863 he was a teacher at Karl Volkmar Stoy'sfounded educational institute in Jena. In 1861 he was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD. In 1863 he passed the examination for the office of preacher in Dresden. As a senior teacher he worked from 1863 to 1866 at the Realschule 1st order (Realgymnasium) Chemnitz . From 1867 to 1869 he sat on the examination committee for the one-year volunteers of the Saxon Army in Zwickau . From 1869 to 1882 he was the first senior teacher at the secondary school 1st order in Döbeln , and since 1876 as a high school professor . In 1882 he became director of the secondary school 1st order in Zittau . From 1884 to 1904 he was the rector of the Dreikönigschule Dresden . He published guides for teaching history, geography, German and Latin.

He pushed through his proposals for fundamental reforms of the school system against the resistance of the ministerial bureaucracy, in particular against the head of the school inspectorate, the philologist Theodor Vogel of the same name . He tried it out in practice at the Dreikönigschule from 1895. His ideas served as a model for other schools and made him known as the founder of the Saxon Reform Realgymnasium . Retired in 1904, he worked as a writer .
