Theresia Benedicte Maria von Bayern (born December 6, 1725 in Munich , † March 29, 1743 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a princess from the House of Wittelsbach .

Life

Theresia Benedicte was the daughter of the Bavarian Elector Karl Albrecht, the later Roman-German Emperor Karl VII , from his marriage to the Austrian Archduchess Maria Amalie .

Her maternal grandparents were Joseph I and Wilhelmine Amalie von Braunschweig-Lüneburg . Paternal grandparents were Maximilian II. Emanuel , Elector of Bavaria and Therese Kunigunde of Poland , the daughter of the King of Poland-Lithuania, Johann III. Sobieski . Theresa's mother, Archduchess Maria Amalia, was also a first cousin of Empress Maria Theresa . Her mother gave birth to seven children, only four of whom lived to adulthood. Theresia Benedictes siblings were Maximilian III. Joseph , Elector of Bavaria, Maria Antonia , Electress of Saxony and Maria Anna , Margravine of Baden-Baden.

She died on March 29, 1743 in Frankfurt am Main , at the age of only 17, of the "child's pains", which means either chickenpox or smallpox in adolescence. The burial took place in the Carmelite Church in Heidelberg , after the abolition of the monastery, the coffin was transferred to St. Michael's Church in Munich in 1805 .

Her 19-year-old cousin Theresia Emanuela von Bayern died two days earlier, also in Frankfurt, from the same disease. She was also buried in the Heidelberg Carmelite Church.

Emperor Karl VII mourned both of them in a letter dated March 29, 1743, to his brother, Bishop Johann Theodor of Bavaria .
