Thomas Jung (politician, 1961)
Thomas Jung (* 5. May 1961 in Fürth ) is a German SPD - politician and since 2002 the mayor of the city of Fuerth.
education and profession
After graduating from the mathematics and natural sciences branch of the Helene-Lange-Gymnasium Fürth , Jung studied law at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg . He received his doctorate as Dr. jur. 1990 with the topic "The principle of equality of arms in civil proceedings". In 1992 he became a public prosecutor at the Nuremberg-Fürth regional court , but gave up this activity when he became a member of the Bavarian state parliament in 1994 .

In 1984, at the age of 23, he received a mandate on the Fürth city council. From 1994 to 2002 Jung was a member of the SPD parliamentary group in the Bavarian state parliament ( 13th and 14th electoral terms).
Public offices
In the local elections in March 2002, Jung was elected Lord Mayor of Fürth in the first ballot with 53.33% of the votes cast and 55% turnout, replacing Wilhelm Wenning ( CSU ) with 41.40%. The candidates for mayor of all other parties remained below 2%.
In July 2006, Jung was elected to the board of the Bavarian Association of Cities . Since 2011 he has been 1st Deputy Chairman of the Bay. City days. He was born on July 15, 2020 at the 56th General Assembly of the Bay. Re-elected city days in Regensburg .
In the local election on March 2, 2008 , he was able to secure his re-election with a voter turnout of only 49% with a majority of 80.1%.
In the local elections on March 16, 2014 , Jung was again confirmed in office with 73% of the votes. The turnout fell again to 45.4%.
In the local elections on March 15, 2020, he was confirmed in office in the first ballot.

He is married and has two children.
