Thomas Schwartz (born May 31, 1964 in Landstuhl / Pfalz ) is a German Roman Catholic priest , theologian , honorary professor , author , publisher and television presenter .

Life

Schwartz was born as the son of the married couple Wilhelm and Elisabeth Schwartz, b. Dengel, born. After graduating from the Johanneum in Homburg in 1983, he immediately entered the novitiate of the Hiltrup Sacred Heart Missionaries and later made his first profession there. In the winter semester of 1984/1985 he began studying Catholic theology at the University of Münster . This was followed by studies in philosophy at the University of Augsburg and theological studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

On October 25, 1985, he entered the Augsburg seminary , but one year later he moved to the Pontificium Collegium Germanicum et Hungaricum de Urbe in Rome. In March 1989 Schwartz received his deacon ordination there . About a year later, October 10, 1990, he was in Rome by the Bishop of Mainz Karl Lehmann for ordained priests . In October 1991, he acquired with a method-historical study of the transition from the casuistry to New Scholasticism the licentiate in specialized moral theology .

Schwartz has been a member of the Catholic student association KDStV Winfridia (Breslau) Münster in the CV since 1985 and the owner of the KDStV Hercynia Freiburg im Breisgau (1996) and the KDStV Aenania Munich . In 1986 he was the founding senior of the Catholic Academic Association Capitolina in Rome.

Thomas Schwartz is committed to numerous social projects and the Christians in the Holy Land . In 1999 he was appointed Knight of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem by Cardinal Grand Master Carlo Cardinal Furno and invested by Anton Schlembach , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy . In 2017 he became prior of the Augsburg Commandery, succeeding Karlheinz Knebel . He is a member of the German Association of the Holy Land .

In 2001 he became a student in moral theology with the thesis Between Immediacy and Mediation. The conscience in the anthropology and ethics of Thomas Aquinas is doing his doctorate at the University of Freiburg .

From 2005 to 2014 Schwartz was honorary professor for applied ethics , in particular business ethics and business ethics at the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences . For years, he has also been teaching at the economics faculty of the University of Augsburg , where he was awarded the honorary professorship for business ethics in 2014. From 1999 to 2009 he was a university pastor in Augsburg. Before that, he had held various teaching positions since 1995. From 2006 to 2009 he was also head of the academic pastoral care in the diocese of Augsburg and chairman of the board of trustees for Education . From the beginning of 2009 he worked in the management of the Catholic youth welfare in Augsburg, a health and social service provider with 3,620 employees in over 80 facilities. There he was to take over the chairmanship of the board in 2011, which was withdrawn at the beginning of 2010.

Schwartz participated in the television program Alpha bis Omega from 2003 to 2008 , in which he exchanged views with Harald Lesch on theological and philosophical topics. He moderates the show Schwartz for the soul alone. The series are broadcast on Bavarian television at night and on Sunday mornings .

From 2005 to 2010 he was the publisher and editor of the university magazine presstige, the largest student university magazine in Bavaria.

Schwartz was pastor of Stotzard from August 2000 to August 2010 . Since October 2010 he has been pastor in Mering , since 2014 he has been a clerical adviser to the KEG Schwaben and since July 2016 also a priestly companion for the Catholic German Women's Association in the diocese of Augsburg.

In 2014 Schwartz was accepted into the European Academy of Sciences and Arts .
