Thomas Ulbricht (born July 10, 1985 in Salzwedel , GDR , Magdeburg district ) is a German athlete in the T12 starting class who specializes in short and long sprints . He also competed in the javelin , long jump , pentathlon and the 4 x 100 meter relay .

career path

At the age of eleven Ulbricht had to switch to a school for the blind and visually impaired in Tangerhütte . After he was able to work on his sporting talent in 2003, he began an apprenticeship as a wholesale and foreign trade clerk in cooperation with the Olympic base in Berlin after an aptitude test at the bbw Academy in Berlin . Since 2007 Ulbricht has been working as a clerk at the Federal Agency for Digital Radio for Authorities and Organizations with Security Tasks , a legally competent public-law institution in the division of the Federal Ministry of the Interior .

Athletic career

At the age of eleven, Ulbricht first began swimming, then beating, and finally got into athletics.

In his first major success in 2003, Ulbricht won 3 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medals at the International German Championships (IDM) in Berlin, whereupon he was invited by the national trainer to the Kienbaum National Training Center for a viewing course and then brought to Berlin on his initiative . Since then, Ulbricht has been consistently at the forefront nationally and internationally.

Thomas Ulbricht is at PSC Berlin . He competes in the starting class T12 (athlete with severe visual impairment, macular degeneration ).

At the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio, he won a bronze medal in the 100-meter run and, like all medal winners, was awarded the silver laurel leaf on November 1, 2016 .
