Thomas de Pourquery
Thomas de Pourquery (born July 7, 1977 in Bondy ) is a French jazz musician (saxophone, also vocals, composition ).
Live and act
Pourquery began playing the saxophone at the age of 14; his teacher was Stefano Di Battista . He then entered the class of François Jeanneau at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris .
In 2000, Pourquery became a member of Laurent Cugny's big band Lumière . Cugny also included him in his edition of the Orchester National de Jazz . He then became an active member of the collective de Falaises in Paris with Maxime Delpierre , Laurent Bardainne, David Aknin and Sylvain Daniel . He also played with musicians such as George Brown, Sunny Murray , Marc Ducret , Paco Séry , Linley Marthe , Billy Hart .
In 2002, Pourquery won the band and soloist prize at the La Défense jazz competition with a quintet that he led together with Daniel Zimmermann . In addition to working in this DPZ he made his mark as a singer and saxophonist within the punk collective Rigolus and then joined the Megaoctet of Andy Emler at. In 2009 he released the album He's Looking at You, Kid with DPZ . Thanks to the success of this album, he was invited to the jazz sous les pommiers festival in Coutances for three seasons .
In 2010, Pourquery founded The Brain Festival , a festival held in various cities in France to support research into neurodegenerative diseases , which also took place in 2012. In 2012 he released the album The Endless Summer and founded DPZ & The Holy Synths .
In 2014 Pourquery released his first album with the sextet Supersonic , which he created with Laurent Bardainne, Fabrice Martinez, Arnaud Roulin , Frederick Galiay and Edward Perraud as well as guest singer Jeanne Added ; He performed this homage to Sun Ra at numerous festivals. In the same year he founded the pop duo VKNG with Maxime Delpierre , which presented several productions.
In addition, Pourquery works regularly with Fred Pallem , Frànçois & The Atlas Mountains, Sarah Murcia , Babx, Oxmo Puccino , Mick Jones and the English pop group Métronomie . In 2016, he played with Henri Texier and Michel Portal at the anniversary concert of the Maison de la Culture in Amiens . He created the soundtracks for the films La fille du 14 juillet (2013) and Alice and the Sea (2014). He has also worked as an actor.
Prizes and awards
In 2014 Pourqueroy received the Victoires du jazz in the category “Instrumental Album (Jazz) of the Year” for the album Thomas de Pourquery & Supersonic Play Sun Ra . In 2017 he was named "Artist of the Year" with the Victoires du jazz .
