The Tilisuna-Schwarzhorn , also called Schwarzhara , is 2460  m above sea level. A. high mountain in the Sulzfluh group , a subgroup of the Rätikon in the western central Alps . It is located in the Montafon , a valley in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg . The mountain takes the name Schwarzhorn from its dark volcanic rock with the minerals amphibolite and serpentine , which set the steep rock peaks apart from the surrounding area, the light gray reef limestone of the Rätikon. The mountain has the shape of a horn that sends out pronounced ridges to the north and south. It was first climbed from the east as part of the Austrian national survey in 1853. The first tourist on the summit was the Scottish mountaineer John Sholto Douglass , who later founded and chaired the Vorarlberg Alpine Club section with the mountain guide Christian Zudrell, who reached the summit from the south via the Schwarze Scharte .

location

The Tilisuna-Schwarzhorn is a good five and a half kilometers as the crow flies south-southeast of Tschagguns in the Montafon Valley and about 8 km west of St. Gallenkirch . The eastern flank of the mountain falls down to Lake Tilisuna at 2103 meters above sea level. To the west, the terrain first flattens into a cirque called Bilkentobel and then down to the Porzalengawald . Neighboring mountains are in the course of the south ridge , separated by the Schwarze Scharte crossing at an altitude of 2336 meters, the 2443 meter high Verspala . To the north, in the course of the 2 km long ridge named Walser Alpjoch, lies the Tschaggunser Mittagspitze at 2168 meters and to the southwest, beyond the Tilisuna Lake, the 2342 meter high Tilisuna-Seehorn .

Paths and bases

Zudrell and Douglass came from Tschagguns and climbed the Schwarzhorn from the south. This is also today's normal route . The Tilisunahütte , located south-southeast at an altitude of 2208 meters, serves as a base . The path leads from the hut first to the Schwarzen Scharte and then north over the ridge to the summit in, according to literature, moderately difficult climbing of difficulty UIAA II to the summit. The walking time from the hut is about an hour. The Schwarzhorn can also be climbed in UIAA grade II via the north ridge.
