Timmy Yip

Timmy Yip ( Chinese  葉錦添  /  叶锦添 , Pinyin Yè Jǐntiān , Jyutping Jip 6 Gam 12 tim 1 ; born December 22, 1967 in Hong Kong ) is a Chinese art director , costume and production designer from Hong Kong who, in addition to an Oscar for best production design, has won numerous others Won film awards .

Life

Yip began his work as an art director, costume designer and set designer in the film industry in 1989 for the film " Eat a Bowl of Tea " ( Eat a Bowl of Tea , 一 碗茶 ) and has worked on the equipment of around 30 films to this day .

In 1993 he won the Golden Horse Award for best art direction together with Zhanjia Yang and Wai-Ming Lee at the Golden Horse Film Festival , one of the most important Chinese film awards, namely for Seduction Behind Monastery Walls (1993) by Clara Law with Joan Chen , Hsing- kuo Wu and Fengyi Zhang . At the same time he was nominated for the best art direction award at the 1994 Hong Kong Film Awards .

His most successful film to date has been Tiger and Dragon (2000) by Ang Lee with Chow Yun-Fat , Michelle Yeoh and Zhang Ziyi : For this he not only won the Oscar for best production design at the 2001 Academy Awards , but was also for the Oscar nominated for best costume design . He also won the British Academy Film Award (BAFTA Film Award) for best costume design and the LAFCA Award from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association for best production design. Furthermore, he received nominations for the best costumes at the Saturn Award , for the Excellence in Production Design Award from the Art Directors Guild , for the BAFTA Film Award for the best production design, for the Horse Award for the best art direction, for the Hong Kong Film Award for the best production design and for the best costume designs as well as for the Golden Satellite Award for the best production design and for the best costume design.

At the 2003 Hong Kong Film Awards, he also received a nomination for best art direction in Double Vision - Five Hells to Immortality (2002) by Chen Kuo-fu, starring Leon Dai , David Morse and Yang Kuei-Mei . In 2006 he was nominated for the Hong Kong Film Award for best art direction and best costume and makeup design for the film Wu Ji - The Riders of the Wind (2005), directed by Chen Kaige with Jang Dong-gun , Hiroyuki Sanada and Cecilia Cheung .

Another successful film for him was The Banquet (2006) by Feng Xiaogang with Zhang Ziyi, Daniel Wu and Zhou Xun : For this he won the Asian Film Award in 2007 , the Golden Horse Award for best production design and for best makeup and costume design . He was also nominated for the 2007 Hong Film Award for best art direction and best costume and makeup design.

In 2009 he was nominated for the Saturn Award for Best Costume and Eddy Wong for the Satellite Award for Best Production Design for Red Cliff (2008) by John Woo with Tony Leung , Takeshi Kaneshiro and Fengyi Zhan . In addition, he won the Hong Kong Film Award for the best art direction and the best costume and makeup design for this film.

For Red Cliff II (2009), which was also directed by John Woo with Tony Leung, Takeshi Kaneshiro and Fengyi Zhan, he was recently nominated again for the Hong Kong Film Award for best art direction and best costume and makeup design.
