Timothy Garden, Baron Garden KCB FRAeS FRUSI FCGI (born April 23, 1944 in Worcester - † August 9, 2007 ) was a British Air Marshal of the Royal Air Force and a politician of the Liberal Democrats , who was a life peer member from 2004 until his death of the House of Lords .

Life

Studies and officer of the RAF

After visiting the King's School Worcester Garden began studying physics at St Catherine's College of the University of Oxford , which he with a 1965 Bachelor of Arts (BA) and in 1967 with a Master of Arts graduated (MA). House of Lords

After retiring from active military service, he became Director of the Royal Institute of International Affairs at Chatham House and also took a professorship at the Center for Defense Studies at King's College London . In 1997 he became Liveryman of the Guild of Air Pilots and Navigators and in 2003 a Fellow of the City and Guilds of London Institute .

By a letters patent dated June 3, 2004 Garden was elevated to the nobility as a life peer with the title Baron Garden , of Hampstead in the London Borough of Camden . Shortly thereafter took place on 9 June 2004 on its introduction ( Introduction ) as a member of the House of Lords . In the upper house it belongs to the faction of the Liberal Democrats. During his membership in the House of Lords, he was defense policy spokesman for his parliamentary group from May 2005 until his death.
