Tobias Nickenig (born August 1, 1984 in Neuwied ) is a former German soccer player .
Career
Nickenig started his football career at BSV Weißenthurm , moved to SG Andernach in the C-youth and in 2000 to the offspring of 1. FC Köln .
In the 2005/06 season , the 1.90m tall midfielder was appointed to the professional squad, but was not used there and was loaned to Sportfreunde Siegen for the winter break of the 2006/07 season. Back at 1. FC Köln he fought for a regular place with the billy goats at the beginning of the 2007/08 season , until he was out for about eight months with pubic bone inflammation and had to pass by the end of the season. On the last day of the first half of the 2008/09 season , he made his first Bundesliga appearance against VfL Bochum.
In January 2009, Nickenig moved from 1. FC Köln to the Liechtenstein soccer club FC Vaduz , which plays in the first Swiss league, the Axpo Super League , and was coached by the 1990 world champion, Pierre Littbarski .
In the summer of 2009 he moved to the 3rd division for VfL Osnabrück on a free transfer . With the "purple-whites", he won the hearts of fans with his passionate style of play and became one of the pillars of the promotion team. On May 19, 2010, his contract was extended by two years at his own request. After his immediate return to the 2nd Bundesliga , he had to struggle with several injuries in the 2010/11 season . On April 18, 2011, he was suspended from Osnabrück for a game because he was late for a practice session. Due to the renewed relegation of VfL Osnabrück from the 2nd Bundesliga, his contract, which was originally dated until 2012, became invalid and he was able to transfer free of charge.
For the 2011/12 season he moved to the Turkish club Orduspor , which plays in the highest Turkish league, the Süper Lig . There he made seven appearances in the first half of the season. After the club failed to pay their salaries, Nickenig turned to FIFA and terminated his contract at the beginning of April 2011 with the support of FIFA. Afterwards there was speculation about a return to VfL Osnabrück. For the 2012/13 season , Nickenig moved to FC Erzgebirge Aue . There he advanced to one of the public favorites, as he had done before at VFL Osnabrück, and helped the club to keep the class for two years in a row. After two seasons in which he repeatedly struggled with injuries, his contract was not renewed after the 2013/14 season. He had to end his professional career due to persistent knee problems in the fall of 2014.
From January 2016 to November 2016 he was the sports director of the Thai first division club Nakhon Ratchasima Mazda FC.
Tobias Nickenig is currently the managing partner of GS Globall Sports GmbH.
