Toivo Suursoo (born November 13, 1975 in Tallinn , Estonian SSR ) is a former Estonian ice hockey player who was two Danish ice hockey champions with Herning Blue Fox .

Career

Toivo Suursoo began his career as a hockey player in his Estonian homeland, where he was active from 1990 to 1993 for LNSK Narva , Tallinna JSK and Kreenholm Narva . He was then taken by Krylya Sowetow Moscow under contract, for which he played for three years in the Russian Super League . During this period he was also selected in the eleventh round of the NHL Entry Draft in 1994 as a total of 283rd player by the Detroit Red Wings , for which he never played. Instead, the attacker completed ten games in the 1994/95 season for Krylja Sowetow, who competed as Soviet Wings in the International Hockey League , scoring four points, including three goals.

In the summer of 1996 Suursoo was committed by TPS Turku from the Finnish SM-liiga , with whom he was runner-up in the 1996/97 season and won the European Hockey League . From 1998 to 2000 the Estonian was under contract with the Malmö Redhawks in the Swedish Elitserien . He also completed two missions for the Adirondack Red Wings in the American Hockey League during this period . After a season with the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks in the AHL, the Estonian international played in the 2001/02 season for Luleå HF in the Elitserien. He then moved to their league rivals and at the same time his ex-club Malmö Redhawks, which he left after a year and a half in the course of the 2003/04 season to go hunting for goals for Neftechimik Nizhnekamsk .

In the summer of 2004 Suursoo signed with the Herning Blue Fox from the Danish AL-Bank Ligaen , with whom he became Danish champions for the first time in the following season . He then played for two years in the Belarusian extra league for HK Riga 2000 and HK Keramin Minsk , where he was runner-up with Minsk in the 2006/07 season. In the same season, the winger scored a total of seven points, including three goals, in 19 games for Amur Khabarovsk in the Russian Super League. For the 2007/08 season, Suursoo returned to his former Danish club, Herning Blue Fox, with whom he was able to win the national championship again. After the veteran started the 2008/09 season with the reigning Belarusian champions HK Keramin Minsk, he moved to IF Troja-Ljungby in HockeyAllsvenskan , the second highest Swedish league, shortly before the end of the season .

The 2009/10 season began Suursso in his homeland at Välk-494 Tartu , which he left after a goal in just one game and to spend the entire remaining season at IK Oskarshamn in HockeyAllsvenskan. The 2010/11 season began for the Estonian international with the Swindon Wildcats in the English Premier Ice Hockey League , in which he scored 22 scorer points, including 13 goals, in 24 games. In December 2010 he was committed by Mörrums GoIS IK from the third Swedish division, Division 1 . For the 2011/12 season he signed a contract with the Lyon Hockey Club from Division 1 , the second French division. For the French, however, he only completed five games before he moved to the Kongsvinger Knights from the 1st divisjon , the second Norwegian division, in October 2011 .

International

For Estonia , Suursoo took part in the Division I World Championships in 2003 , 2007 and 2011 .
