Tomasz Wojciech Wałdoch (born May 10, 1971 in Gdansk ) is a former Polish soccer player and current coach . He also has German citizenship .
career
society
From 1988 to 1995 he played for Górnik Zabrze in the Polish Ekstraklasa . In 1994 he moved to VfL Bochum in the German Bundesliga . He stayed there until 1999 and moved to FC Schalke 04 , where he was team captain from 2000 to 2004 . He won the DFB Cup with Schalke in 2001 and 2002 . When he won the first cup, he was unable to take part in the final due to a yellow card suspension, but was presented with the trophy as team captain. When he won the second cup, he personally led his team. In 2003 and 2004 he won the UEFA Intertoto Cup with FC Schalke 04 and the League Cup in 2005 . On May 13, 2006 he was adopted in the game against VfB Stuttgart . After being substituted on by Mirko Slomka in the second half , he made it 3-2. In May 2007, Wałdoch completed five games for Jagiellonia Białystok and then ended his playing career for good.
National team
With the Polish Olympic selection, Wałdoch took part in the 1992 Olympic Games , for which he had qualified with Poland's U-21s on the junior European Championship , and won the silver medal at the football tournament in Barcelona . At the soccer world championship 2002 he took part as team captain. For the senior national team , he played a total of 74 international matches between 1991 and 2002.
Coaching career
From 2006 to April 2008 Wałdoch worked as an assistant coach of the U-17 team at FC Schalke 04. After Michael Büskens had become interim coach of the Schalke Bundesliga team, Wałdoch looked after the second team with Sven Kmetsch until the end of the season . He then worked again as an assistant coach for the U-17s and completed his training as a soccer teacher at the Hennes-Weisweiler Academy in the 2009/10 season . From April 19, 2010, Wałdoch was the sports director of the Polish record champions Górnik Zabrze . For the 2011/12 season he returned to FC Schalke 04 as head coach of the U-17 juniors. After one season, Jens Keller was hired as the new coach of the U-17 team and Wałdoch took over the U-14 team. In the 2014/15 season he assisted the head coach Jürgen Luginger as assistant coach of the Schalke U23 team. Three years later, the club announced that Waldoch would be assistant coach of the second team for the third time under the new head coach Torsten Fröhling.
Private
Wałdoch is the father of a son and two daughters. He lives with his family in Bochum - Altenbochum . His son Kamil is also a soccer player and plays e.g. Z. at Rot Weiss Ahlen .
Wałdoch is honorary captain at FC Schalke 04.
