In 2008, just 18 years old, with a points win in the final over Ben Fowl, he became English paper weight champion (weight class up to 48 kg), but only finished third in the same weight class at the 2008 British Junior Championships because he defeated Robert in the semi-finals Wright of Scotland lost on points. He lost there after a big fight in the round of 16 against Andrew Selby from Wales (1: 1+) just on points and therefore only reached ninth place. He was able to take revenge against the same boxer in November 2010 at the Championships of Great Britain in Manchester . There he managed to beat Selby in the final just on points (10: 9).

In 2011, Tommy Stubbs started in three important international tournaments, none of which he was able to win, but finished with very good placements. He was not used at the European Boxing Championships in Ankara in 2011 . Tommy Stubbs' next big goal is likely to be to compete in the London 2012 Olympics . His toughest opponent to qualify for these games will be the 2011 European champion Andrew Selby.
