Tony Mmoh (born June 14, 1958 in Enugu ) is a retired Nigerian tennis player .

Life

Mmoh won the Nigerian high school singles championships three times between 1975 and 1977. He attended St. Augustine College in Florida and was voted two of the best All-American selections. In 1985 he was quarter-finalist in the Challenger tournaments in Lagos , Thessaloniki and Helsinki . The following year he was in the finals of the Challenger tournaments in Enugu and Benin City and was in the double semifinals of Nagoya and Lagos.

In 1987 he achieved the best individual result of his career with the semi-finals at the ATP tournament in Schenectady , he was defeated by the eventual winner Jaime Yzaga . He also won the Challenger tournament in Munich with Roger Smith . In 1988 he won the double title of the Challenger tournament in Rio de Janeiro on the side of Bruce Derlin . He reached his highest ranking in the tennis world rankings in 1987 with position 105 in singles and doubles.

His best individual results at a Grand Slam tournament were second round participation at the Australian Open and the US Open . His best result in the doubles competition was participation in the round of 16 at the 1987 Australian Open.

Mmoh played 14 singles and seven doubles games for the Nigerian Davis Cup team between 1986 and 1988 . During this time, Nigeria was never able to qualify for the world group. In 1988 Nigeria met Austria in the Europe group , in the 0-5 defeat Mmoh lost both his singles against Thomas Muster and the doubles at Nduka Odizor's side . At the 1988 Summer Olympics , he competed in singles and doubles for Nigeria. In singles he was defeated by Michiel Schapers in the second round , in doubles he was eliminated with Nduka Odizor in the first round against the French Guy Forget and Henri Leconte .

Mmoh lives in Kingston , Jamaica . He is married and has two children, including: Michael (* 1998), who also became a professional tennis player.
