Name origin

According to an old legend, the origin of the name is told

"that in the year 933, after a 9-year armistice, the due tribute was refused by King Heinrich I. Then the Hungarians attacked the borderland of the East Franconian Empire. The wild overgrown valley of the Hassel was what many residents of the surrounding villages to Hiding was mainly for women and children as the men procured food. The Hungarians discovered the camp, murdered women and children and robbed them. When the men returned from the hunt and saw what had happened, they were overwhelmed by the darkness of the camp At night the invaders' guards killed the majority of the Hungarians. At the same time a thunderstorm was brewing and the few who wanted to flee were swept away by the masses of water that rolled into the valley and drowned as day came and the sun fell Illuminated place, the sight of the murdered and mutilated was so terrible that the valley has since been called "The Valleys of Death".
