The heather ponds near Osterfeld are a nature reserve in the town of Osterfeld and the community of Meineweh in the Burgenland district in Saxony-Anhalt .

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG 0202 is around 66  hectares in size. Around 26 hectares of the nature reserve are also designated as an FFH area “Waldauer Heideteich- und Auwaldgebiet”. The area has been under protection since 2001 (date of regulation: April 19, 2001). The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the Burgenlandkreis.

The nature reserve is located southeast of Osterfeld in the Saale-Unstrut-Triasland nature park . It is a wetland with a unique for the region Erlenbruchwald with Carex paniculata and Galium uliginosum and in the region of a source Moores of small extent of a birch Bruchwald with wood cornices , Equisetum fluviatile , angular , shore , marsh and Carex rostrata shaped and thorny Wurmfarn. In the area of ​​the nature reserve, gray willow bushes, black alder , moor and hanging birch grow . The nature reserve is traversed by a stream that flows into the Steinbach, a tributary of the Wethau , near Waldau . There are six dammed ponds, the small heather ponds, along the stream. To the east of the nature reserve lies the artificial Great Heideteich, which is surrounded by reed beds with reeds , broad-leaved and narrow-leaved cattails , knotty hedgehog and cane grass . The ponds were created in the 15th and 16th centuries for fish farming.

In the south of the protected area, there is a caused by extensive mowing wet meadow , the remainders of a pipe grass meadow with Moorgrass, Blaugrüner- , yellow , millet and Carex echinata , Devil's , Heilziest , selinum carvifolia , Wiesensilau , sump yarrow , ragged robin , Lotus pedunculatus and meadowfoam has. The waters in the nature reserve are the habitat of brook loach and moderlieschen . Amphibians and reptiles are by ponds and Alpine Newt , earth and spadefoot , grass , water and tree frog , fence and forest lizard , slow-worm and grass snake represented. The nature reserve is also an important habitat for the avifauna . To live in the reeds marsh harrier , little grebe , Bläss- , pond and water rail and throttle and reed warbler . The swamp forests are habitat for marsh , willow and Beutelmeise , Klein Specht and Nachtigall , while in the open, partly interspersed with woody plants areas peewit , partridge , Neuntöter , Schafstelze , Wiesenpieper , Braunkehlchen and whitethroat occur. Quail , gray bunting and field swirl can be found in the transition to the field . The nature reserve is almost completely surrounded by agricultural land . In the west, the nature reserve borders on Autobahn 9 .
