Saale meadow near Goseck

The Saale floodplain near Goseck is a nature reserve in the town of Weißenfels and the municipality of Goseck in the Burgenland district in Saxony-Anhalt .
The nature reserve with the registration number NSG 0268 is around 133 hectares . It is partially a component of the FFH area "Saale slopes at Goseck" and almost completely from the conservation area surrounded "Saale". The area has been under protection since the end of 2002 (date of regulation: December 16, 2002). The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the Burgenlandkreis.
The nature reserve, which consists of two parts, is located west of Weißenfels in the Saale-Unstrut-Triasland nature park . It extends along the Saale valley and places parts of the Saale floodplain and south-facing red sandstone slopes under protection.
The meadow area of the Saale is predominantly characterized by grassland , which is often used intensively as pasture . The Saale is accompanied by woods with white willows and banks with black mustard , cane grass and balsam . On the banks of the oxbow lakes there are trees with almond and basket willows and a small white willow stand . There are also reeds made of reeds and cattails as well as fennel and marshcress societies. In the floodplain area south of Goseck, remains of oak-ash floodplain forests have been preserved on Rabeninsel and west of the Weißenfelser district Lobitzsch there is an alder quarry forest with marsh marigold and autumn crocus as well as one of the few regional occurrences of the pond horsetail . This is followed by a valuable wet meadow with occurrences of Kleinseggenrieden .
The slope areas between Lobitzsch and Goseck are occupied by oak-hornbeam forests with winter linden and field maple . On the lower slope this turns into an elm-ash slope forest. Southeast of Goseck, in a short, ravine-like side valley, mixed deciduous forests with sycamore maple , sycamore elm , sessile oak and ash grow . In addition, abandoned vineyards , orchards and dry and semi-dry lawns can be found in the area of the slopes . In the herbaceous layer of the forests in the area of the slopes, small-flowered balsam , garlic mustard , tumbled calf goiter , forest ragweed , turkish lily , large two-leaf and spotted arum grow . Bachbunge , Knäuelbinse and Meadowsweet can be found in the damp under-slope areas . In the area of the abandoned vineyard terraces, there are warmth-loving bushes such as single hawthorn , wolfberry , dog rose and robinia . Settle on the dry grass and a. Hairy parsley and blue fescue. The orchards are made up of dry oat meadows u. a. Formed with delicate schiller grass , field litter , Carthusian carnation , small ormennig and sand thyme .
The floodplain of the Saale is the habitat of an extensive avifauna . So here u. a. Red and black kite , marsh harrier , hawk , kestrel , buzzard , white stork , kingfisher , marsh warbler and whinchat provide a suitable habitat. The remains of the alluvial forest on Raven Island are home to a larger colony of gray herons . The flood plain is also the habitat of various bat species . The pug bat and the great mouse-eared bat are native here. The waters in the nature reserve are the habitat of various dragonflies and amphibians such as edible frogs and crested newts . Reptiles are z. For example, by Ringelnatter and smooth snake , which occurs in the area of dry slope areas represented. The nature reserve is also of particular importance for the stag beetle and the common sickle insect , which reaches its northernmost distribution area here on the dry slopes. The nature reserve is a valuable resting place for various water bird species .
The nature reserve borders in places on Lobelitz and Goseck. The eastern section is bounded by the Halle – Bebra railway line .
