Foot fetishism , technical term podophilia ( Gr. Πους pus "foot" and -philia ), describes the sexual preference for feet .

Expressions

Although the characteristics can be roughly divided, there are so many different, individual variations in them that it is almost impossible to list them all. They are sometimes so different from one another that the same variety can be the fulfillment of all sexual dreams for one foot fetishist, but provokes incomprehension or even disgust for another. The focus can be on certain areas of the foot such as toes, soles of the feet or special details such as foot jewelry, on special aspects such as texture or smell, but also on footwear such as socks, stockings, tights or shoes (see shoe fetishism ). Some like clean, well-groomed feet, while others expressly prefer them to be smelly or dirty. Furthermore, factors such as size, width, shape and shape of the feet, color tone and condition of the skin and the viewing angle can play a role.

Foot sex

It can be exciting to be sexually satisfied or otherwise occupied with the feet of the preferred sex. The sexual practices, among other things, a distinction between the irritation with the whole foot ( foot job , Engl. "Footwork". See blowjob (), and only with your toes toejob "toe work", Eng.). The stimulation with shoes (shoejob, English "shoe work") overlaps more with the shoe fetishism. Stimulation by the foot can be done penile, vaginal, anal, oral, by breast intercourse or by touching another erogenous zone .

BDSM and trampling

For those who are at the same time followers of BDSM , it is erotic to look at, tickle or "abuse" their bound feet (e.g. through a bastinado ). The submissive part, on the other hand, is satisfied by pampering or cleaning the foot by licking or a foot massage .

Some like it when a person passes through the body or simply to provide ( trampling , English. "Trampling"). This can include kicks, jumps or the pressing and squeezing of mostly erogenous parts of the body with the foot to gain pleasure pain . Damaging the scrotum is also known as ballbusting and forms part of the cock and ball torture (English for penis and testicle torture ). There may also be a link to macrophilia , where a person imagines being crushed with their feet by a much larger person. Breath control can also be carried out using the feet by restricting the air supply through the nose or mouth.

Masturbation and your own feet

Fetishism can also focus on one's own feet. In this case, satisfaction comes from stimulating one's own feet and may even be achieved without the intervention of a partner.

history

In ancient China, the lotus foot was considered an ideal of beauty: the smaller a woman's foot, the more desirable it was considered to be. In a painful procedure, girls' feet were broken and bandaged so that they grew as little as possible. This does not have to mean that foot fetishism was particularly widespread or respected in China (the fact that the modern German ideal of beauty advertises a large breast does not necessarily mean that the majority of Germans are breast fetishists), but the erotic charisma of the female foot is repeated in this context stressed. In Western cultures, too, female attractiveness is often associated with small feet. In the fairy tale " Cinderella " the pretty Cinderella is characterized by the fact that she wears shoes that are so small that no other woman's feet can fit into her shoe. A more modern example is the Barbie doll, which has extremely small feet.

Celebrity foot fetishists

In the 19th century the Bavarian King Ludwig I succumbed to the charms of the notorious dancer Lola Montez , in whose honor he had a sculpture of her feet made of marble by the sculptor Johannes Leeb .

In the 18th century, the Russian tsarina Anna Leopoldowna is said to have held six foot ticklers.

The American director and producer Quentin Tarantino is open about his preference for women's feet , which he sometimes uses in his films, such as in Pulp Fiction .

The American photographer Elmer Batters (1919–1997), who was valued by Wolfgang Tillmans , is considered a prominent grandmaster and “father of foot photography”. In 2015, Batters was shown the first major exhibition in Los Angeles.

On the mixtape Essahdamus , published in 2016, the rapper Kool Savas dedicated the song Sneakers & Heels to his preference for female feet .

The comedian Bülent Ceylan publicly stated several times that he has a preference for women's feet.

Acceptance and dissemination

A study published in 1994 compiled data on the preferences of homosexual foot fetishists. Among other things, she found a variety of different expressions, for example that many preferences are associated with a certain type of man and that foot fetishism did not seem to replace real relationships.

A study published in 1998 discovered an increase in the amount of foot fetish material in pornographic literature at the same time as the AIDS epidemic. It is believed that if dangerous STDs are circulating, the spread of non-genital and sexual intercourse may increase.

Foot fetishism is a normal expression of sexual preference (and not a fetishism), as there is a slight sexual dimorphism in human feet , which influences the assessment of the attractiveness of a possible partner. Women have somewhat differently shaped, overall smaller and more graceful feet than men, in absolute terms, but also in relation to their height. While women often turn their attention to their own feet, which manifests itself in foot decoration or "shoe ticks," heterosexual men often turn their attention to the woman's feet. Women with small feet or feet that appear small in high heels are judged by the clear majority of men to be particularly attractive. At the same time, women find themselves more attractive when their feet appear small, which is reflected, among other things, in their tendency to buy shoes that are too small. In relation to men, both sexes are more likely to associate large feet with masculinity.

Despite scientifically unequivocal findings that there is even a majority of sexual preferences with regard to feet, the social acceptance of the conception of feet as a component of sexuality is still low.

Theories of origin

Although foot fetishism is not fetishism according to the medical definition, the origins of sexual fetishism are still used to determine this sexual inclination .
