The Tristenspitze ( 2716  m slm , Italian Cima dei Covoni ) is a striking rocky peak in the Mühlwalder Ridge, part of the Zillertal Alps . The Tristenspitze is the second highest peak of this ridge after the one meter higher White Wall , which separates the Mühlwalder Valley in the southwest from the Weißenbachtal in the northeast. The summit is located one kilometer north of the Lappacher Jöchl , a transition between the South Tyrolean villages Weißenbach and Lappach .

geology

In contrast to the glacier peaks in the Zillertal main ridge , which belong to the central gneiss zone, the area around Lappach and especially around the Tristenspitze is criss-crossed by a relatively narrow slate band in which less marbled limestone and dolomite occur. In the fissures of the metamorphic rock of this area numerous, sometimes very sought-after minerals can be found, including quartz , pericline , adulara , apatite , rutile , titanite , garnet , calcite , hematite , epidote and pyrite ; The Tristenspitze is also known for its beautifully formed amethysts . Since considerable damage to the landscape was caused by mineral collectors, a mining ban for minerals was imposed in the area around the Tristenspitze in 1995.

Increase opportunities

The easiest ascent leads from the striking notch immediately south of the summit over very steep craggy terrain to the summit ( UIAA I ). This gap can be reached from the Mühlwalder Jöchl, whereby a steep pre-summit can be climbed over (UIAA II) or bypassed to the east. Alternatively, the saddle can also be reached directly from the east, over steep craggy terrain and rubble.

The Kellerbauerweg , a high path over the Mühlwalder Kamm from Speikboden to Neveser Joch, crosses the eastern flank of the Tristenspitze.

In winter, the Tristenspitze is also a ski touring destination . From Weißenbach, however, the ascent is almost exclusively to the ski summit ( 2640  m ) south of the main summit.
