Truls Ove Karlsen (born April 25, 1975 in Oslo ) is a former Norwegian ski racer . In the World Cup, he specialized in the disciplines of slalom and giant slalom for a long time , occasionally also competed in the other disciplines and from the 2010/11 season only competed in giant slalom.

biography

After Karlsen had only participated in FIS races for a long time , he was only used regularly in the European Cup from the 2000/01 season . Here he quickly made it to the top, whereupon he started in the World Cup from the 2001/02 season . In his third World Cup race, the Aspen Slalom on November 26, 2001, he finished eighth, after which he was nominated for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City . There he was eliminated in both slalom and combination.

In the 2002/03 season , Karlsen was placed in the top ten six more times, including his first podium, third place in the knockout slalom in Sestriere on December 16, 2002. At the 2003 World Cup in St. Moritz , he was 24th in the Giant slalom, but was eliminated in slalom. Karlsen also achieved six top 10 placings in the winter of 2003/04 and celebrated his first and so far only World Cup victory in the Kranjska Gora slalom on February 29, 2004 . As in the previous year, he achieved eighth place in the Slalom World Cup.

The 2004/05 slalom season , however, was rather disappointing. With a ninth place in Flachau and a 13th place in Schladming as the best results, Karlsen fell well short of expectations, at the 2005 World Championships in Bormio he was eliminated again in the slalom. Due to injury, Karlsen was absent for almost the entire 2005/06 season and even after that he did not find his way back to the top of the world. There were only a few places where he was able to classify himself among the top 20. An exception was his good results at the 2007 World Championships in Åre , where he finished sixth in giant slalom and seventh in slalom. The Norwegian also surprised with the 13th place in the giant slalom at the 2009 World Championships in Val-d'Isère , as his best World Cup result this winter was 23rd place.

While Karlsen had previously only participated in slaloms and giant slaloms in the World Cup, from 2009 he also started in a few super combinations, super Gs and descents. If the slalom used to be his stronger discipline, today it is the giant slalom. While he won World Cup points for the last time in the slalom in 2008, he was able to improve his giant slalom results again in the 2009/10 season . Karlsen finished in the top 20 five times, with his best results being two 15th places in the giant slaloms of Val-d'Isère and Alta Badia . This was the first time he was among the top 20 in the Giant Slalom World Cup. At the 2010 Winter Olympics , the Norwegian competed in all five disciplines. In addition to two failures, he achieved 21st place in the giant slalom, 22nd place in the super combined and 46th place in the downhill.

In the 2010/11 season , Karlsen only took part in giant slaloms in the World Cup. With tenth place in Beaver Creek , he achieved a top 10 result for the first time in six years. In the Giant Slalom World Cup, however, he fell six places down on the previous year. At the 2011 World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , he finished 25th in the giant slalom and 28th in the Super-G.
