The gymnastics and sports club Walle Bremen from 1891 eV was a German sports club from the Walle district of Bremen . The club is best known for its handball department , whose first women's team in the 1990s was one of the most successful German handball teams.

In December 2007, the association had to file for bankruptcy at the Bremen district court . The club had liabilities of over 720,000 euros and was insolvent. On February 29, 2008, the insolvency administrator in charge stated that there was no rescue for the association and that it would go into bankruptcy and dissolve. The neighboring club TV Bremen 1875 agreed to accept all members and league teams and to rename itself to TV Bremen-Walle 1875 .

The handball department

The sport of handball in Walle took off in 1987 when the local financial broker Volker Brüggemann - father of Diana Brüggemann, who played in the club as a circle runner - became active as the main sponsor. Top female players were brought to the Hanseatic city from all over Europe, and sporting success came quickly. In 1991 the team won the German handball championship for the first time . Four more championship titles should follow. When the sponsor had to stop its financial support, the club went downhill. In 1998 they were relegated from the first division.

After a new start in 2002 in the district class B, several promotions made it to the state league. However, the class could not be held.
