Tyler Sloan (born March 15, 1981 in Calgary , Alberta ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who has played for the Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League during his playing career .

Career

The 1.91 m tall defender played from 1998 with the Calgary Royals in the Alberta Junior Hockey League and two years later moved to the top Canadian junior league Western Hockey League for the Kamloops Blazers , after the left-shooter was undrafted by the Columbus Blue in September 2000 Jackets from the National Hockey League had been signed. First, he continued to play junior hockey before during the 2001/02 season in the farm team for the Syracuse Crunch in the American Hockey League debut. In the next seven years shuttled between different Sloan Minor teams and played it for both the Dayton Bombers and the Las Vegas Wranglers of the ECHL and for the Manitoba Moose and the Hershey Bears of the AHL. In 2006, the Canadian won the Calder Cup with the Bears , the championship of the American Hockey League.

At the beginning of the 2008/09 season , Sloan was appointed to the squad of the Washington Capitals, the cooperation partner of the Hershey Bears from the NHL. In his hometown of Calgary, the defender made his debut against the Calgary Flames on October 21, 2008 in the highest North American professional league. After four games for the Capitals, Sloan was sent back to the Hershey Bears in the AHL for the time being.

On July 29, 2011, he was awarded a two-year free agent contract with the Nashville Predators .

Tyler Sloans is the brother of Tara Sloan , a competitive swimmer who died in a traffic accident shortly before her planned participation in the 2000 Olympic Games .
