The Otisstraße underground station is a station on the U6 line of the Berlin underground . It is the middle of three successive above-ground stations on this line. In the station directory of the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) the underground station is listed with the abbreviation Oti .

Location and description

Northern access tracks
Southern access tracks with
class H trains

The station is in the Berlin district of Reinickendorf in the district of the same name . It is 698 meters from Holzhauser Straße underground station and 824 meters from Scharnweberstraße underground station . The area around the station is dominated by allotment gardens, so the number of passengers is relatively low.

The underground station is located on an earth embankment immediately southeast of the bridge over Otisstrasse. It is located 7.35 meters above street level and has an 8.30 meter wide, fully covered central platform . Access is at the northern end of the platform via a fixed staircase from an access hall located under the track. The design of the station is appropriate; the superstructures consist of blue steel frames, the masonry infills are covered with small yellow mosaic. The glazed waiting room on the platform, designed for the cold season, is no longer open to the public.

To the east of the station is the Seidelstrasse rectifier plant , which was initially the only converter plant to supply the new line to Tegel with traction current .

history

The working title during construction was the name of the crossing guild street, which was renamed Otisstraße in 1956 after the American mechanic and inventor Elisha Graves Otis . On May 31, 1958, the underground station was opened under the name Seidelstraße (Tegel airfield) , although the eponymous Seidelstraße runs parallel to the underground line at a distance of 200 meters. The station building of the airfield was then north of the runway and could be reached from the station. In 1961, the name was changed to Tegel Airport and, after the current airport building was put into operation, it was completely omitted from November 1974.

On January 6, 2003, the station was given the originally intended name Otisstrasse. Is on the road a work of Otis Elevator Company , which for other Berlin subway stations Lifts manufactures.

Since October 29, 2010, the station has had an elevator system for barrier-free access; the costs for this amounted to 800,000 euros.

Connection

At the underground station there is no direct transfer to other local public transport lines in Berlin .
