history

In June 1961, the expansion of the former line C II to the south began. Starting from the Tempelhof station , the line under the Tempelhofer and Mariendorfer Damms was continued. The section on which the Westphalweg train station is located was opened on February 28, 1966. During the subsequent reorganization of the Berlin subway line numbering on March 1, 1966, line C II (Tempelhof - Mehringdamm) was renamed "Line 6" and received its final route from Tegel (since May 31, 1992: Alt-Tegel) to Alt-Mariendorf. At the beginning of 1984 - after the takeover of the S-Bahn in West Berlin by the BVG - line 6 was renamed "U6".

Design of the station

Westphalweg train station has a central platform and exits at both ends of the platform. There are superordinate vestibules at these, which are connected to the platform via stairs. The station has no barrier-free access, but four different accesses via stairs. For reasons of space, the two northern entrances are located in the opposite houses Mariendorfer Damm 61 and 64.

The colors white, yellow and various shades of green dominate the vestibules. In the platform hall, the walls are clad with vertical, large-format blue ceramic tiles. The central supports are encased in a reddish brick look.

In 2009, the BVG had the billboards in the train station dismantled and replaced in December 2009 with white wall tiles with different, large-format floral motifs.

At the end of 2018, the station, along with twelve other stations, was placed under a preservation order as a witness to the West Berlin subway construction in the 1960s and 1970s .

The station was designed by the architect Rainer G. Rümmler - like all the stations on the line between Tempelhof and Alt-Mariendorf, with the exception of Alt-Tempelhof station .
