Schwartzkopffstraße underground station
The Schwartzkopffstraße underground station is a station on the Berlin underground line 6 in the Mitte district . It is located 4.30 meters below Chausseestrasse between the junction of Schwartzkopffstrasse and Wöhlertstrasse .
history
Construction began in 1913/1914 and was discontinued during the First World War . After resuming work in 1919, the station was opened on March 8, 1923. Heinrich Jennen, Alfred Grenander and Alfred Fehse designed a station in white with a central platform . The station signs have a red border. At BVG it is used under the abbreviation Sk .
From April to July 1945 the station was closed due to war damage . On April 9, 1951, it was renamed the Walter Ulbricht Stadium . When the construction of the Wall began on August 13, 1961 until July 1, 1990, it was a " ghost station ". The subway ran through him and in East Berlin only stopped at Friedrichstrasse station .
In 1973 the station was named the World Youth Stadium after the adjacent large sports complex . The renaming on March 15, 1973 and the replacement of the signs took place before the stadium reopened under the new name on July 28, 1973. Only the security personnel inside the station and the passing passengers (from the western part of the city ) could read the new name .
Since 1991 the station has been called 'Schwartzkopffstraße' again. In 1993 it was rebuilt and dismantled. Since then it has been a listed building . The station was given an elevator and is therefore barrier-free .
