The USS McClusky (FFG-41) is an Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate .

The McClusky is counted among the so-called long-hull , i. that is, it is about 138 meters long and 13 meters wide. She has a draft of 7 meters. Around 240 people work on the ship, including around 219 crew members and 21 members of the helicopter crews (six pilots, 15 maintenance personnel).
The McClusky was, as initially designed primarily all ships of Perry class as escort ship for defense against air and sea targets. The McClusky was laid on October 18, 1981 at Todd Pacific Shipyards , the launch took place only 11 months later. The ship was named after Rear Admiral C. Wade McClusky , who commanded the flight squadrons of the USS Enterprise (CV-6) in the Battle of Midway . The McClusky entered service in Long Beach on December 10, 1983 .
Calls
In 1986, the McClusky was involved in monitoring the waters around Taiwan after the People's Republic of China carried out missile tests in the region. During the eruption of Mount Pinatubo in 1991, the ship was involved in the evacuation of civilians from the region.
In 1992 the frigate visited the city of Vladivostok as the first unit since the collapse of the Soviet Union . After she had carried out a total of three missions in the Persian Gulf , the McClusky changed her home port to San Diego, from where she made several trips to curb drug smuggling. She was also involved in the rescue of Richard Van Pham, who had to spend 3 ½ months on his unseaworthy sailboat in the Pacific.
In 2002 the McClusky was assigned to the active reserve fleet. In this, in addition to the greatly reduced active crew, reserve personnel serve primarily on the frigate. Since then, the frigate has mainly been used to hunt smugglers in Central America. In 2008 the crew was able to confiscate 8 tons of cocaine . In the summer of 2010, the frigate took part in the multinational exercise RIMPAC . On January 14, 2015, the ship was decommissioned at Naval Base San Diego.
