2- (2 H -Benzotriazol-2-yl) -4,6-di- tert -pentylphenol ( UV-328 ) is a chemical compound from the group of 2- (2-hydroxyphenyl) -2 H -benzotriazoles . It is a UV filter that is used as an anti-aging agent for plastic.

use

2- (2 H -Benzotriazol-2-yl) -4,6-di- tert -pentylphenol is a light stabilizer for a variety of plastics and other organic substrates. Its use is for the stabilization of styrene - homo- and - copolymers , acrylic polymers , unsaturated polyesters , polyvinyl chloride , polyolefins , polyurethanes , polyacetals, polyvinyl butyral , elastomers and adhesives recommended. It protects polymers and organic pigments from UV radiation and helps to maintain the original appearance and physical integrity of molded parts, films, sheets and fibers during outdoor weathering . The use concentration is 0.1–1%.

Use in vehicle paints , industrial coatings , commercial paints such as wood stains or do-it-yourself paints is also recommended.

Hazard and risk assessment

2- (2 H -benzotriazol-2-yl) -4,6-di- tert- pentylphenol was added to the candidate list in December 2014 because it is very persistent, very bioaccumulating and toxic. It was also proposed for inclusion in the Stockholm Convention .

In German waters it was found in sediments, suspended matter , livers of bream and in triangular clams .
