Class 206 submarine

U 16 is a former German submarine.

history

The submarine class 206 was built by Rhein-Stahl-Nordseewerke in Emden. The keel was laid on November 1st, 1970. The launch took place on August 29, 1972, the commissioning on November 9, 1973, together with U 19 . The boat was converted from March 14, 1988 to the type 206 Alpha. It was stationed in the 3rd submarine squadron in Eckernförde.

Whereabouts

The submarine was ceremonially decommissioned on January 31, 2011 after 38 years of service. It remained in Kiel and served as a spare parts donor for Colombia.
