The boat was built by Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft in Kiel. It was laid down on April 15, 1971 . It was launched on March 9, 1973 and commissioned on August 16, 1974. It belonged to the 3rd submarine squadron in Eckernförde.
Whereabouts
After a short period of service, many class 206 boats were converted. This boat was decommissioned on June 3, 1998. After a failed sale to Indonesia, considerations were made to keep the boat as a museum piece in Eckernförde. When that failed too, the submarine was scrapped.
