U 34 is a type 212A submarine of the German Navy .
history
As the last of four boats of the first batch of submarine class 212A, the U 34 was laid down at the Nordseewerke in Emden. The official commissioning took place on May 3, 2007 and it belongs to the 1st submarine squadron with home port Eckernförde .
On January 22nd, 2009 it left the marine port of Eckernförde for the Mediterranean to take part in Operation Active Endeavor against international terrorism.
In May 2011, U 34 sailed again in the direction of the southeastern Mediterranean to take part in Operation Active Endeavor . The multi-crew concept was tested for the first time. Until her return on December 11, 2011, three crews drove the boat. The concept was then rated as a success, as the time burden for the soldiers was significantly reduced, the standing time of the boat could be extended considerably and transit time was saved.
Sponsorship
The Bavarian city of Starnberg took over the sponsorship of the submarine .
