Musically socialized between punk and reggae , Schöbel began to write his own songs at an early age. He achieved local fame in Stuttgart in the mid-1980s with ecstatic stage shows. Since then he has founded various bands, still works with national and international artists, makes film music for adults and children and also works as a cartoonist . He has lived with his wife in Berlin since 2002 and, in addition to project activities, runs the Cradle of Good Taste , a gallery and event room in Berlin-Kreuzberg .
His first bands, at that time still based in Stuttgart , were called Karl Anton and the Heartbreakers (punk rock 'n' roll), The Cleanin Woman (60ties girl group, beat) and The Hipshots (soul). By Karl Anton and the Heartbreakers left is the fictional character Karl Anton , called "the world's first cartoon popstar". At the beginning of the 1990s, Udo Schöbel addressed his fans via this virtual figure in the Internet, which at that time was still uncharted territory .
With the band Cleanin Woman he wrote the title song for the film Riff (director: Rolf Wolkenstein ), which was broadcast nationwide in 1986 on ZDF Kleines Fernsehspiel . With the Hipshots Udo Schöbel appeared on July 27, 1986 as a support band for Rod Stewart in the football stadium in Marbella . In 1986 he founded the Homeboys with GAW , which were renamed Sexangels after Elin Doka joined the band as the third band member . At the beginning of the 90s the first records of both bands took place. At the same time, Udo Schöbel toured with the comedy group Shy Guys (1988–1996), with whom he performed up to 150 appearances annually at home and abroad.
In 2000, after moving to Berlin, he founded the electro-pop band VetterSchöbel together with Marcus Vetter . In 2002 VetterSchöbel became the pop trio Minibeatclub . The members today are Lea Büser, Udo Schöbel and Peter Wehrmann, who replaced Marcus Vetter as a band member in 2008. Udo Schöbel calls the music style of the band Minibeat and describes a sound that is based on a voluntarily reduced band line-up ( human beatbox , guitar and vocals). This creates the typical style of the band between electro chanson and casio punk.
In 1997 he wrote and produced the song Frisör with Thomas D. for his solo album SOLO . Thomas D.'s album SOLO reached number 40 in the German charts in 1998. Frisör was published as a single and in the same year made it into the top 100 of the German single charts. In 1998 Udo Schöbel accompanied the comedy duo Badesalz with his band project Gummisoul on their open-air tour. In 1999 Ralf Goldkind (producer of Lucilectric ) produced the first Minibeat song glue . In 2001 Udo Schöbel composed the hit sung by Dirk Bach , Wir sind die Maus, for the 30th birthday of the show with the mouse . In 2001 the first mini beat club album was released: First Aid . In 2003 the Minibeatclub became the official show band of The Kurt Krömer Show . The DVD The best of the Kurt Krömer Show with a mini beat club feature was released in 2005 and achieved gold status (40,000 copies sold). A year later the Minibeatclub released the CD Einfach gut, produced by Moses Schneider (producer of Beatsteaks and Tocotronic ) .
After numerous compositions, including for the show with the mouse , he composed and produced the Kikaninchen CD Dibedibedab in 2010! The second KiKANiNCHEN CD dance We play, sing songs followed in 2012, the third KiKANiNCHEN CD titled The world is colorful and the radio play My story cushions in 2015. The song Dibedibedab is today with over 23 million views on Youtube one of the greatest current hits for children. The Kikaninchen DVD We Play Every Day was awarded platinum by the Federal Association of the Music Industry based on the sales figures and the second DVD I like to do nonsense was awarded gold. In May 2014, Udo Schöbel's latest music album for children, the Wackeldackel Hitparade, was released . For this he created the character Körperklaus as the main character and protagonist. In addition to the composition of the songs and the musical implementation, the entire visual appearance comes from Schöbel's pen.
The TV start of the Körperklaus mini-series in the show with the elephant produced by WDR for KIKA is on July 13, 2016. The first five films for the magazine show (on songs from the Körperklaus CD Wackeldackel Hitparade ) are Der Schuhplattlertanz , Milkshake , Manekineko , Körperklauslied and I'm just good .
